Meet Syf: 2020 World Championship

Following two Grandmasters seasons and six Masters Tours, we are gearing up to conclude the year with the Hearthstone 2020 World Championship! With $500,000 (USD) on the line, the top eight players in the world are set to meet on December 12-13 to see who will join the Hall of Champions and finish off 2020 as the next Hearthstone World Champion.

We recently asked each of the competitors a series of quick-fire questions to learn more about them ahead of the 2020 World Championship. Let’s get to know Fan “Syf” Yilun.

The Lion’s Pride

While most viewer’s outside of China may primarily know Syf as 2019 World Champion, Xiaomeng “Liooon” Li’s boyfriend and practice partner, he has spent the last six years cementing himself as one of the top Chinese players of all time. Emulating his hero and 2016 World Champion, Pavel “Pavel” Beltukov, utilizes fast play with limited mistakes. After securing the 2019 Gold Team Championship Season II Playoff Champion and MVP, Syf is ready to take on the 2020 World Championship and show the world what the Chinese scene has known for years.

HS Esports: What is your greatest strength at Hearthstone?

Syf: Hardwork.

HS Esports: Prior to Madness at the Darkmoon Faire, what has been your favorite deck from 2020?

Syf: Animal Guardian Druid.

HS Esports: What is your favorite Hearthstone card of all time?

Syf: Golden Celebration.

HS Esports: What has been the highlight of 2020 so far?

Syf: Winning the ticket to the World Championship.

HS Esports: Other than yourself, who do you think has the best chance to win the 2020 World Championship?

Syf: Bloodyface.

HS Esports: Why do you think you are going to win the 2020 World Championship?

Syf: I think I am really committed to Hearthstone. I train as much as I can and take part in as many tournaments as I can. After accumulating all this experience, acquiring new skill sets and learning from others, I believe I have been constantly improving to be a better player. Moreover, since I started to play Hearthstone competitively, advancing to the World Championship has always been my primary objective. I have never given up despite multiple failures and this time I finally managed to grab the opportunity.

HS Esports: What does becoming the World Champion mean for you?

Syf: Dreams come true.
