Meet XiaoT: 2020 World Championship

Following two Grandmasters seasons and six Masters Tours, we are gearing up to conclude the year with the Hearthstone 2020 World Championship! With $500,000 (USD) on the line, the top eight players in the world are set to meet on December 12-13 to see who will join the Hall of Champions and finish off 2020 as the next Hearthstone World Champion.

We recently asked each of the competitors a series of quick-fire questions to learn more about them ahead of the 2020 World Championship. Let’s get to know Wu “XiaoT” Jiwei.

The Trailblazer

With a natural gift for card games, XiaoT quickly took to Hearthstone following a friend’s recommendation in 2014. He made a lasting mark on the competitive Hearthstone scene in 2018 with a top eight finish in the HCT Summer Championship, while the youngest Chinese player in the tournament, that was followed by a second-place finish in the China vs EU Championship. Despite failing to advance from the Group stage in the 2019 HCT World Championship, XiaoT demonstrated the high-level skill developing in the Chinese ecosytem. In securing a spot at his second World Championship. XiaoT is primed to show the world that he is not only one of the best Chinese players, but one of the best to ever pick up Hearthstone.

HS Esports: What is your greatest strength at Hearthstone?

XiaoT: Deep and unique understanding of the game.

HS Esports: Prior to Madness at the Darkmoon Faire, what has been your favorite deck from 2020?

XiaoT: Tempo Mage. It is a very powerful deck which requires high skill-level instead of luck.

HS Esports: What is your favorite Hearthstone card of all time?

XiaoT: Classic. It is the coolest.

HS Esports: What has been the highlight of 2020 so far?

XiaoT: Winning the ticket to the World Championship.

HS Esports: Other than yourself, who do you think has the best chance to win the 2020 World Championship?

XiaoT: Bloodyface, he is my idol.

HS Esports: Why do you think you are going to win the 2020 World Championship?

XiaoT: I practice every deck intensively, watch a lot of games and form my own understanding of the meta. Hence, I am really confident in playing the playoff.

HS Esports: What does becoming the World Champion mean for you?

XiaoT: Winning the World Championship used to be my ultimate goal but as for now it is just a title that I would love to have. My goal now is to join the rank of top 5 Hearthstone players, in my own opinion, and I believe it is still a long way to go.
