BlizzCon 2016 Talent Contest Spotlight

With BlizzCon fast approaching, we wanted to take time to get you acquainted with our fabulous Talent Contest finalists! This year, we have quite the mix of performers—a rap group, an acoustic set, a rock band, a boogying band of sisters—coming from all over the United States to perform live Friday night.

Without further ado, we’re pleased to introduce you all to Lick the Blade, GaleSong, Have No Fear, and Stephanie Jones, your 2016 BlizzCon Talent Contest finalists!

Hey everyone! First, tell us a bit about your group and how you developed your act.

Lick the Blade: Well, we’ve been a band since 2005. In February I was watching the NA vs EU Legion Alpha Dungeon Races and saw that Maw of Souls was referred to as the “Voyage of the Damned,” and it just so happens I’d written a song with that same title in 2009. An hour or so later, I had the Legion version of “Voyage of the Damned” completed.

GaleSong: We’ve always wanted to use our tight harmonies for “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” and were thrilled to see it was on the list of approved songs this year. So we decided to write lyrics to reflect our favorite Blizzard game: World of Warcraft!

Have No Fear: We’re a hip-hop group, but we’re also huge gamers and love to use themes from our favorites games and express them over video game inspired beats.

Alright, we have to ask—Horde or Alliance?

LTB: FOR THE HORDEEEE!!

HNF: Alliance all day, THEY’LL NEVA STOP US!!

Stephanie Jones: Oh gosh, this is hard as I play both! Originally though, I was hardcore Horde, but recently crossed over to Alliance. The Horde will always have a special place in my heart.

How have Blizzard’s games inspired your act?

GS: Back in the day, we did lots of PvP when leveling characters. We weren’t “twinks” in the way it’s defined now since we were still leveling, but we prided ourselves on being top PvP-ers. Our act reflects our experience doing PvP and the countless other twinks who love the game!

SJ: Well, I’ve been obsessed with Heroes of the Storm for about a year now, so I’ve grown to know the ups and downs you encounter when playing Quick Match. I’ve always been someone who writes about my emotions, and since this game was such a big part of my life, I wanted to write a song about it. It’s been my favorite song to write yet!

How can your fans find you?

LTB: Check us out on our Facebook! After this BlizzCon, we’ll have a killer video to share with everyone!

GS: We’ve actually got a website, a blog, and are on Facebook as well!

HNF: We’re on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter!

SJ: I’m on YouTube and Soundcloud!

Good luck to the contestants, and we’ll see everyone Friday night for the big show!
