It’s #WarzoneWednesday — Let’s Drop In
Welcome to the Warzone.
Every Wednesday is #WarzoneWednesday here on the Call of Duty® blog. This weekly column — and, by extension, the Official Warzone Strategy Guide — will help you become one of the most elite Operators in the world.
The strategy guide is fully updated for Verdansk ’84, and to help you digest its 230,000+ words of wisdom, we’re breaking down a fresh Point of Interest and providing five tips straight from the guide. We’ll keep you informed of future Warzone updates, too.
Let’s get to it. Here’s #WarzoneWednesday Week 5:
Point of Interest of the Week: Verdansk Soccer Arena
Just north of Downtown, the Verdansk Stadium is undergoing construction as the city prepares the arena for a much-needed renovation. When the Sparks aren’t playing there, though, it’s open ground for battle. Read on for tips to navigate the pitch with confidence so that you can hit your goals and live to tell about it:
Verdansk Soccer Arena Overview — Φ/Λ: G/5 (Center). The home field of Verdansk’s most popular sports team, the Verdansk Sparks, this stadium is known by locals as the “Verdansk Arena.” The stadium, though built only 30 years ago, is beginning to show its age, and the Stadium owners (including a Kastovian oligarch) are keen for the Sparks to play in a more futuristic stadium setting, with a covered roof and underground parking, rather than this concrete monstrosity. The arena itself has many entrances, which are detailed in the Points of Interest descriptions in the Official Warzone Strategy Guide. For now, let’s inspect the pitch.
Soccer Pitch: The turf has long since been ruined, and the pitch itself is now filled with piles of dirt, containers, bulldozers, dump trucks, forklifts, and other construction materials. Note there are five ground-level entrances into the pitch and a sixth giant hole in the southern part of the stands. All are recommended vehicular access points.
Soccer Pitch: Red Hut (West): Over on the western curved edge of the pitch perimeter is a small red hut where the workers change and eat. There is a desk, some tables, and chairs. Note, too, the two windows and door to enter and exit from.
Soccer Pitch: Construction Hut (Northeast): The dull-colored hut between the player seating on the northeastern edge of the pitch holds some equipment and has a door and two windows to use as access points.
Soccer Pitch: Construction Crane: (South): The highest point in the Arena isn’t the roof of the covered stands or the platform atop the scoreboard, but the giant yellow crane that dominates the entire area and can be seen for miles around.
Soccer Pitch: Crane Arm Platform: Above the partly demolished covered stand roof is a large container dangling from the crane arm. Land atop this for elevated long-range combat potential, though you’re relatively exposed.
Soccer Pitch: Crane Arm: The only way to reach this exposed but sky-high position is by parachute or helicopter. Accessing the superstructure of the crane involves you landing on a rear gantry or the arm itself (which is precarious, as there’s very little sidestepping on this narrow steel beam). Both are above the (inaccessible) cabin, and the rear crane gantry offers unsurpassed 360-degree views and height advantage, though you’re a sitting duck up here. Use the crane to escape to the top of the covered stand, scoreboard, or any of the three floodlights, too.
Now get out on the pitch and show what you’re made of. And when you’re ready to dive deeper into Stadium strategies, check out the Official Warzone Strategy Guide for detailed intel on the various arena entrances, the grounds, and even the parking lot. No detail is too small when your survival is on the line.
Top Five Tips of the Week:
In this week’s #WarzoneWednesday, we’re talking power positions. The greater your vantage point, the greater your advantage over enemies on the ground. Just do your due diligence and check the surroundings before taking aim. Let’s get to it:
Tip #010 — It’s All About the Climb
Welcome to the Warzone: Basic Training / Movement
Exterior ascenders may help you quickly reach a sniper’s position on a tall structure, but this can be risky given that it leaves you without a means to defend yourself and makes some noise. Try using a Heartbeat Sensor, UAV, or your squad’s comms to ensure it’s safe to ascend one of these, lest you be caught defenseless on the other end of it.
Tip #205 — Towering Over the Junkyard
Tac Map: Atlas / Verdansk: West / Junkyard
The various structures in the Junkyard don’t have verticality, save for the Comms Tower. It can give you incredible sights over most of Verdansk’s west side but will leave you with little cover. Be sure to coordinate with your teammates if you decide to take the climb up here.
Tip #119 — An Alarming View from the Station
Infil: Tactics in the Warzone / Tac Map General Locations
All Fire Stations have solid potential for scavenging items, including in their tall towers. These towers are often fantastic sniping perches with solid cover, so if you’re looking to take the high ground, they are reliable sources for it.
Tip #252 — The Theater of Nightmares
Tac Map: Atlas / Verdansk: Central and South / Stadium
Old Verdansk Stadium is far more open to pitch invaders than the more modern version. Watch for those wandering around the field and the stands, and beware of snipers on the scoreboard and construction equipment, in addition to any vehicle that can easily drive onto the field.
Tip #253 — Check the Scoreboard
Tac Map: Atlas / Verdansk: Central and South / Stadium
The Stadium’s Scoreboard could be a popular power position during a match, as it provides awesome views of action down on the pitch, as well as over to Downtown and Bloc 6. It’s wise to check for snipers up here, and if none are present, then gaze over to the light fixtures and the crane for potential nests.
We’ll see you online.
