Learn more about adjusting your control scheme
Before you get overwhelmed by the multiple control options in Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare®, we’ll walk you through some key settings you may want to adjust.

Information from the Battlefield

The heads-up display (HUD) gives you information during a game. Three of those tidbits of information come via the intel in your crosshairs, Killstreaks data, and weapon detail. Your crosshairs show you where you’re aiming and can prompt you to reload, notify you when you can mantle or climb, and show you where you can mount your weapon. The Killstreaks you select before you enter a match are located on the bottom right of your HUD. You’ll also see how close or far you are from a certain streak and a progress bar that shows recharging data for active streaks.
Lastly, details on your held weapon are on the bottom right. Need to know the chamber, total ammo count, or fire type of your weapon? Look no further. Plus, you can view your tactical and lethal equipment here as well.

Moves and Maneuvers

The default controls in Modern Warfare can be adjusted to fit your preferences in settings, but for newcomers, here’s what you’ll need to know to get started.
W, A, S, D: Movement. Use these keys to move forward (W), left (A), backward (S), and right (D).
F: Use. Press this to access context-sensitive objects or actions like opening doors instead of charging through.
Space: Jump/Stand/Mantle. C: Crouch/Slide.
Left Ctrl: Prone.
Left Shift: Sprint/Tactical Sprint/Change Zoom. If you’re maneuvering, press this while you move to sprint or tap twice quickly while moving to Tactical Sprint (which causes you to move more quickly than a sprint but with your weapon pointed up and held in one hand, lengthening the time it takes to aim and engage the gun). You only have one Tactical Sprint per life.
Mouse: Aim/Look.
Left-Click: Fire Weapon.
Right-Click: Aim Down Sight.
R: Reload.
1 or Mouse Wheel Up: Swap to Next Weapon
2 or Mouse Wheel Down: Swap to Previous Weapon
Mouse Button 4 or Z: Mount Weapon.
B: Alternate Fire Mode. For example, switching from fully auto to burst fire.
Mouse Button 5 or E: Melee.
G or Mouse Wheel Press: Lethal Equipment.
Q: Tactical Equipment.
N: Night Vision Goggles (only applicable maps and modes).
X: Use Field Upgrade.
3/4/5/6/K: Killstreak. Activates Killstreak in the first, second, third, and fourth slots, respectively. “K” opens a radial menu where you can manually select from available streaks.
Tab: Scoreboard/Objectives.
F3/F2: Pause/Dismiss Pause Menu.

Settings of Play

Before you jump into a match, go to Settings to adjust audio, the screen-safe area, and sensitivity. There are multiple audio mixes available in the game, which Infinity Ward, the developer of Modern Warfare, detailed on their website
The safe area, approximately your screen size, can be adjusted for your monitor whether you have a small or ultra-ultra-wide display. Lastly, sensitivity relates to mouse sensitivity and acceleration. More details can be found here.

You’ve got the intel. Now, you're ready to take control in Modern Warfare. See you online!
