Game Guide: Simplified Controls

Selecting and Deselecting Units or Buildings

Below is a list of commands you can issue to select and deselect units or buildings.

Select Unit (Left Mouse Button)
Multiple units can be selected by clicking and dragging.

Add to Selection (Shift + Select Unit)
Add/Remove units or buildings from your current selection. Note: you can hold Shift, click and drag to add/remove multiple units.

Select Unit Type (Ctrl + Select Unit) or (Double Click Unit)
Select all units of that type in the game view.
Note: you can combine commands such as Ctrl + shift + Select Unit to add/remove all units of a given type.

Select Idle Worker (F1)
If a worker is idle, pressing F1 will select the idle worker. Pressing F1 again will center the camera on the worker.

Basic Unit Commands

Below is a list of commands you can issue when you have a unit selected.

Attack Move (A + Left Mouse Click on Ground)
Orders selected units to move to the target point, fighting nearby enemies along the way.
Note: this command is the primary method of moving and attacking

Move (Right Mouse Click on Ground)
Orders selected units to move to the targeted area without engaging enemies along the way.
Note: this command is best used while retreating

Focus Fire (Right Mouse Click on Unit or Building) or (A + Left Mouse Click on Unit or Building)

Orders selected units to move to the target unit or building and attack it until it is destroyed.
Note: this command is best used when commanding ranged units

Advanced Unit Commands

Below is a list of advanced commands you can issue when you have a unit selected.

Stop (S)
Orders your units to cancel all commands and stop moving

Hold Position (H)
Orders selected units to stay where they are and attack enemies that are within range. Unit will neither chase down enemies nor move to engage.

Patrol (P + Left Mouse Click on Ground)
Orders selected units to patrol between their current position and the target area. Units will attack enemies and move to engage nearby enemies.

Follow (Right Mouse Click on Unit)
Orders selected units to move to follow the target unit.

Queuing Commands (Shift + )
Issue a series of commands for the unit to perform in succession
Example: hold shift, right click a destination, right click another destination, and release shift. The unit will move to the first location and then move to the next destination

Autocast (Right Click Command button)
Some abilities can be set to automatically cast.
Complete List: Baneling Detonate (when burrowed), SCV Repair, Medivac Healing (on by default), Zealot Charge (on by default), Carriers Build Interceptors (on by default)

Control Groups

Assign units or buildings to a control group to quickly select them again in the future or center the camera on them.

Assign Control Group (Ctrl + <#>)
Assign selected units or building to group

Add/Remove to Control Group (Shift + <#>)
Add units to or remove units from group

Select Control Group (<#>)
Select assigned group. Two rapid presses center view on assigned group

Cycle Subgroups (Tab)
Switch between subgroups. "Shift + Tab" cycles in the opposite direction.

Camera Controls

Use these hotkeys to quickly control your camera.

Move Map (Middle Mouse Button)
Hold down to scroll map with mouse

Move Map (Arrow Keys)
Scrolls map with arrow keys

Cycle Notifications (Spacebar)
Centers on the camera on the last warning notification, such as “base is under attack”. Pressing spacebar again cycles through previous notifications.

Cycle Bases (Backspace)
Focus on your base. Pressing backspace again cycles through if you have more than one.

Save Location (Ctrl + <f5, f8="" or="">)
Assign current location to hotkey.</f5,>

Recall Location (<f5, f8="" or="">)
Moves camera to the saved location.</f5,>

Communication

Chat with those in and outside of the game.

Chat with All (Enter)
Opens an input box to allow you to chat with everyone in the game. Pressing "Enter" again send the message. Pressing "Escape" will cancel the message.

Chat with Allies (Alt + Enter)
Opens an input box to allow you to chat with your allies in the game. Pressing "Enter" again send the message. Pressing "Escape" will cancel the message.

Ping Map (Alt + G then Left Mouse Click Ground) or (Alt + G then Left Mouse on minimap)
Creates a ping on the minimap for your allies to see.

Send Personal Chat (Enter, type "/w", then type name of someone on your friends list)
Allows you to send a personal chat message to a friend.

Reply to Personal Chat (Enter then type "/r")
Allows you to reply from a message sent directly to you.
