Let’s get started.

The Witcher

Assault on Kaer Morhen

On the day of the festival of Belleteyn, Geralt of Rivia — believed by many to be dead — suddenly appeared near the fortress of Kaer Morhen, the home of the Wolf School of witchers. Geralt had lost his memories and was being pursued by the Wild Hunt, but had managed to survive thanks to the help of sorceress Triss Merigold.

As Geralt began to recover under the care of friends in Kaer Morhen, the castle was attacked by a criminal organization known as the Salamandra. The assault was led by two individuals: Azar Javed and the Professor, who stole the witchers' secret knowledge of human mutation. In the skirmish, a young witcher named Leo lost his life and once the dust had settled and the surviving witchers paid their respects, Geralt set out to find those responsible for the attack.

Into the Heart of Temeria

Following the tracks left behind by the organization, Geralt managed to close in on the Salamandra in the outskirts of the Temerian capital, Vizima. Geralt became caught up in the schemes and plans of many people in the area, and among other feats succeeded in slaying a vicious monster that has been plaguing local residents.

Triss and an apprentice medic named Shani helped Geralt learn more about the Salamandra while he stayed in Vizima. It was during his time in the capital that Geralt met Yaevinn, a leader within the non-human guerilla organization known as Scoia'tael; Siegfried of Denesle, a member of the Order of the Flaming Rose; and Thaler, the leader of Temeria's Intelligence Service. Geralt also began working with private investigator Raymond Maarloeve, aiming to gain intelligence on the Salamandra.

Escape from Vizima

Azar Javed had gotten wind of Geralt’s work with Raymond, and through his alchemical expertise, Javed used the power of an illusion spell to don Raymond’s identity, after disposing of the detective personally. Through this guise, Javed was able to coerce Geralt, leading to an ambush in the swamps. After being poisoned in the attack with manticore venom, Geralt was nursed back to health by Triss Merigold. Triss had built up a working relationship with representatives from the Lodge of Sorceresses and the Guild of Merchants, and with their cooperation Geralt was able to destroy the Salamandra base in Vizima, defeating the Professor in the process.

Adda the White, daughter of King Foltest of Temeria, had been secretly collaborating with the Salamandra, and upon realizing that she had been found out, she tried to get rid of Geralt herself. Fortunately, Triss was able to aid Geralt, using her magic to help him escape to Murky Waters — far from Vizima, but not from danger.

The End of the Salamandra

During his stay in Murky Waters, tensions rose between the Scoia'tael and the Order of the Flaming Rose, and Geralt was faced with a tough decision. He could either choose to support one side over the other — or not get involved with either.

Following this decision, Geralt returned to Vizima — finding the great capital engulfed in flames and chaos. The Order and Scoia'tael were at war within the city, and to make matters worse, vicious monsters known as Striga were roaming freely through the streets.

Regardless of the danger and turmoil surrounding him, Geralt never gave up on his pursuit of the organization which had attacked Kaer Morhen. Finally, Geralt was able to confront and defeat Azar Javed, rendering the Salamandra destroyed.

The King’s Protector

It came to light that the Grand Master of the Order of the Flaming Rose was behind the Salamandra all along. He had been using the witchers' secret knowledge of mutation to raise his own army of mutants in order to usher in a new age. Geralt was able to succeed in preventing this beguilement and retrieving the stolen secret, putting an end to the plan.

Geralt’s great deeds were praised by King Foltest of Temeria — however, the jubilant mood was short lived as an assassin appeared in Vizima Castle, intent on taking the King’s life. Geralt stopped the assassin, saving King Foltest, which earned the White Wolf the role of Foltest’s personal guard — a position he would keep until the full extent of the assassination plot could be uncovered.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Assassination of King Foltest

Geralt participated in the siege of La Valette Castle, commanded by King Foltest himself. However, the king was once again targeted by an assassin, and though Geralt had prevented his assassination once before, this time he was too late.

Having been found next to the dead king, Geralt was accused of his murder. He was restrained and sequestered in the dungeons of La Valette. However, with the help of Vernon Roche, leader of the Blue Stripes — a special unit under direct command of the late king -- Geralt was able to escape to the upper reaches of the Pontar River. Once safe and away from the chaos, Geralt set out to find whoever it was who had taken it upon themselves to kill King Foltest.

Restoring Geralt's Memories (1)

Geralt, accused of murdering the king, is subjected to torture during his imprisonment at La Valette Castle. The shock of that experience caused him to recall fragments of memories lost before May 1270. He was able to remember being saved by a gray-haired girl just before he and Yennefer were about to lose their lives in a clash between humans and non-humans in Rivia.

In Good Company

In the town of Flotsam, Geralt reunited with his old companions Dandelion the bard and the dwarven war veteran Zoltan Chivay — after managing to save them both from the hangman’s noose. Not long into his stay, Geralt butted heads with a man called Bernard Loredo, the corrupt, brutish commandant of Flotsam.

Geralt also became embroiled in the ongoing conflict between the Blue Stripes, captained by Vernon Roche, and Iorveth — the leader of an elite Scoia'tael commando unit.

Restoring Geralt's Memories (2)

Geralt recalled himself and Yennefer being rescued from the rioting in Rivia by a girl called Ciri. Ciri took Geralt and Yennefer to a mysterious island, but disappeared soon thereafter — just in time to avoid the sudden arrival of the Wild Hunt. These spectral, wraith-like warriors took Yennefer and disappeared, leaving Geralt alone and vowing to find her.

Meanwhile, the Kingslayers managed to avoid Geralt, escaping to Upper Aedirn. On the way, they found and kidnapped Triss Merigold.

King Saver

Depending on his previous choices, Geralt arrived in Upper Aedirn with either Roche or Iorveth. The ongoing war between King Henselt of Kaedwen and the rebels — being led by Saskia, the "Virgin of Aedirn" -- made it difficult for Geralt to track down the Kingslayers.

An assassin appeared before King Henselt. This was the third time that Geralt was present at the scene of an assassination, and this time he prevented it from succeeding by saving King Henselt's life. This is where Geralt learned that the Kingslayers were being aided by the Lodge of Sorceresses.

Restoring Geralt's Memories (3)

Geralt recalled a memory of traveling the world in pursuit of the Wild Hunt. This one contained recollections of his rescue of Yennefer — a memory that brought with it the deep sense of love Geralt felt for the raven-haired sorceress.

Restoring Geralt's Memories (4)

Surprisingly, some of the memories that returned to Geralt involved the Kingslayers. Geralt recalled that he had previously saved the life of a man named Letho; a witcher of the Viper School — the same Letho who would later become one of the Kingslayers, and the person who accused Geralt of murdering King Foltest. Geralt had once been working with Letho to track down the Wild Hunt.

Face to Face With a Kingslayer

A meeting between the rulers of the Northern Realms, the Nilfgaardian Empire — as well as representatives from the fallen Chapter and Council of Mages — was held in the ruins of Loc Muinne. Geralt finally tracked down Letho, the last of the assassins, where it was revealed that the Kingslayers had been hired by the Nilfgaardian Empire in a bid to destabilize the North. As Geralt brought an end to the story of the Kingslayers, a new, bloody chapter in the Continent's history was about to begin.

Restoring Geralt's Memories (5)

As Geralt came face to face with Letho, this time as enemies, a new memory came back to him. Geralt and Letho had reached the King of the Hunt and had found Yennefer. Geralt offered himself to the Wild Hunt in exchange for Yennefer's freedom.

Yennefer was freed and Geralt became a member of the Wild Hunt. This is where Geralt lost his memories. He was unseen in the history books until May 1270 — when he suddenly appeared outside the gates of Kaer Morhen.

War Has Arrived

The Nilfgaardian Empire declared war on the Northern Realms, engulfing the Continent into the chaos of open conflict once more.
