Diablo IV

The 3.2.0 PTR: What You Need to Know

Blizzard Entertainment

The 3.2.0 Public Test Realm (PTR) for Diablo IV will be available from August 4, 10:00 a.m. PDT to August 11, 10 a.m. PDT, offering you the chance to test upcoming changes and features coming in the next season for the base game, shaking up how you play cross both Eternal and Seasonal Realms.

The purpose of the PTR is to test a selection of updates and features before the launch of the next season, including new legacy Uniques, Soul Splinters, character Rebirth, the new Horadric Post, and more before the launch of Season 15.

Using your feedback, we’ll make adjustments before the next season goes live. This helps us to fine-tune balance changes, eliminate bugs, and create the best experience possible while testing new systems. Thank you for playing through the PTR and sharing your thoughts with the team.

A Note on the 3.2.0 PTR

The 3.2.0 PTR may have a different offering of features than you’re used to, and that’s by design. We have more to share at BlizzCon, and we didn’t want all that’s coming with Season 15 to be available before we get a chance to talk more about it. BlizzCon awaits...

Here is what the 3.2.0 PTR will preview ahead of next season.

Challenge Dungeons

Challenge Dungeons are a new mechanic that have appeared across Sanctuary. Note that the encounters you experience here are built specifically to test the underlying system, and the final Season 15 experience will feature different content.

  • Challenge Dungeons can be entered through portals that open in the Overland. Enter them to fight against a fearsome boss.
  • In Torment difficulties, you’ll be able to choose how difficult you want the fight to be, up to three Torment tiers above your current difficulty. Crank up the intensity for even greater rewards.

Overland Ambush

A demon in the bush is worth three in hell. Look out in the Overland, or you’ll get snatched up.

  • While roaming, on rare occasions a demon will begin hunting you. You’ll be warned you’re about to become prey and have 30 seconds to flee or fight.
  • This encounter will test the mettle of Sanctuary’s strongest warriors. This is a difficult encounter.

Legacy Uniques

Nine legacy Uniques have been uncovered from Sanctuary's distant past. These are drawn from the original Diablo, Diablo II, and Diablo III, and will be instantly recognizable to veteran players. Five of them will be usable by all classes, and five will be available to a mix of classes. These are permanent additions available in all versions of Diablo IV.

The list below shows the slot used in Diablo IV, as well as the previous games where these were originally found.

All Classes:

  • Leoric's Crown (Helm)
  • Nemesis Bracers (Gloves)
  • Stone of Jordan (Ring)
  • Squirt's Blouse* (Chest)

*Squirt's Necklace incorporated into a Chest piece

Multiple Classes:

  • Arioc's Needle (2H Polearm) - Barbarian, Druid, Spiritborn
  • Henri's Perquisition (Offhand Focus) - Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warlock
  • In-Geom (1H Sword) - Barbarian, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock
  • The Furnace (2H Mace) - Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock
  • Messerschmidt's Reaver** (2H Axe) - Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Warlock

**coming in Season 15, not testable on the PTR

Legacy Uniques are typical Uniques in terms of power and utility. The Unique affixes remain reminiscent of their original powers, but may be adjusted to fit in with current itemization. For example, Leoric's Crown is similar but not exact between versions:

Leoric's Crown

  • Original: Increases the effect of any non-Legendary gem socketed into the helm by 75-100%
  • Diablo IV: The item counts as Jewelry and increases the effect of any gem socketed into the helm by 75-100%

Mythic Changes

We've heard your feedback, and we're making further improvements to Mythic Uniques and Iconic Mythics. Changes will make the system simpler, offering more crafting choices and giving you far more control over that one major piece you'll need to carry your build into the highest levels.

Thank you all for continuing to provide feedback to us on these changes, helping us to refine and improve the Mythic system. Keep sharing your thoughts on this system as we continue to change and mold this system.

Mythic Unique Crafting Changes

While the methods to create Mythic Uniques remain the same, the outcomes are far more deterministic.

Mythic Uniques can be crafted two ways:

  • Horadric Cube: Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic
  • Jeweler: Rune Crafting > Mythic Uniques

The "Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic" recipe in the Horadric Cube will be more expensive than the recipes through the Blacksmith or Jeweler, but it will also be a total 1:1 transfer. As the name implies, this is a direct transfer to a Mythic state: the random factors are gone. Put in a Tibault's Will with ideal affixes and dialed-in Tempering and Masterworking, and you'll get a Mythic-ized version of that Tibault's Will with all affixes and modifications retained. The only restriction is that you cannot use this recipe on an Unmodifiable item, so beware of Transfiguring your precious Mythic Unique candidate!

The Jeweler Rune Crafting recipe creates Mythic Uniques usable by your class with a recipe combining Resplendent Sparks and Runes. You'll be able to craft Mythic Uniques by choosing a slot (1-Handed Weapon, Ring, etc), which will return a random class-specific Mythic Unique from that slot.

Mythic Uniques created using the powerful Horadric Cube Upgrade Direct recipe will have a Crafted tag. You will be able to equip only one Crafted tag item, but only Mythic Uniques crafted using this recipe will have this tag.

Mythic Uniques created using the Jeweler's method will not have a Crafted tag. However, there are plenty of created options that don’t include a Crafted tag, so there are still many options for multiple Mythics.

Blacksmith Mythic Crafting Changes

The Blacksmith’s Mythic Cache crafting recipe now can drop either Mythic Uniques or Iconic Mythics that are valid for your class. Mythics from this pool will not have the Crafted tag.

Developer’s Note: With the former Iconic Mythics getting regular unique versions, we always want players to have a way to spend excess sparks that does not also require runes, once they already have their crafted Mythic from the Horadric Cube.

Unique Versions of Iconic Mythics

All Iconic Mythics will also be available as Uniques as well. These build-defining Uniques will be easier to get earlier in your character's evolution, ensuring you don't need to spend as much time working through transitional builds.

New Mythic and Unique Charms

The Talisman system is growing with new Mythic Unique Charms and new Unique Charms.

Mythic Unique Charms

Along with Mythic Unique items, Charms will now be available in Mythic quality. Like other Mythic Unique items, Charm properties will roll at maximum value and the Unique property will be significantly buffed.

Any Unique Charm in game will have a low chance to drop as a Mythic Unique. There is no crafting method for Mythic Unique charms, and like regular Unique Charms, there isn't a specific method for target farming. On the S15 PTR, you'll have a chance to test them through your trusty PTR vendor, Mrak.

New Unique Charms

Sixteen new Unique Charms are based on current Uniques in game that have not been represented up until now. Eight of the ten legacy Uniques will also have Charms. Please see the 3.2.0 PTR Patch notes linked below for a complete list.

Rebirth

Rebirth allows you to convert characters from Eternal to Seasonal states, transferring that character to the Seasonal realm and resetting to level 1. Instead of having to create a new character at the start of each season, you'll be able to select an Eternal character to continue their adventures in the Seasonal realm. You will also maintain a running tally of hours played across all that character's Rebirths.

Rebirth keeps all of the following:

  • Class, name, appearance, and state (Normal or Hardcore)
  • Cosmetic preferences, including transmogs and pigments, mounts and accessories, pets, portals, and headstones
  • Before using Rebirth, move all gear and items from that character into your Eternal stash for safekeeping. You'll receive a warning before you click Rebirth that any retained items will be lost on Rebirth, giving you the option to remove all items or destroy them instead. You won’t be able to use Rebirth until your character has no items left equipped or in personal inventory.

Horadric Post

The Horadric Post is a new way for the Diablo IV team to deliver rewards and messages directly to your account. During PTR, you'll receive an early commemorative reward to help us test the system before Season 15.

  • The Horadric Post will occasionally contain important deliveries directly to your account, carrying rewards, supplies, and commemorative items.
  • This system is one-way, a blessed PO box straight from the ether.
