Tyrael Hero Spotlight

"You cannot judge me! I am Justice itself!"

- Tyrael, Archangel of Justice

Wielder of El’druin, the Sword of Justice, the Archangel Tyrael is a force of righteousness who hails from the Diablo universe. In Heroes of the Storm, the Archangel of Justice takes on the role of a stalwart Warrior who fights valiantly against the nefarious forces of the Burning Hells…and enemy heroes alike!

Background

Among the angels, it is the Archangel of Justice, Tyrael, who became humanity's greatest defender. Wielding his sword El'druin against the Burning Hells, the Prime Evils would have enslaved Sanctuary and all of humanity long ago had Tyrael not intervened.

  • Tyrael’s "Punishing Blade" [Q] causes a slow and a small amount of damage. This can be used to delay an objective until teammates can make their way into position.
  • Tyrael’s "Righteousness" [W] is both a shield and a source of damage. Make sure to use it when diving deep into a battle.
  • On Dragon Shire, use Tyrael’s "Punishing Blade" [Q] to jump to the Shrines quicker.
  • On the Haunted Mines Battleground, using Tyrael’s talent "Sanctification" [R] on the Golem when it begins to die off can zone out enemies, while allowing teammates to grab the skulls!
  • Careful using "Hand of Sacrifice" [E] on cloaked allies, it could tell the opponents where your hidden allies are!

"Greetings Mortal..."

The newest Tyrael alternative skin we're revealing is one that is sure to strike fear into the heart any Nephalem or mere mortal!

  • Demonic Tyrael - It is said that of all the Aspects of Sin, Tyrael, the Lord of Pride, is the most ruthless. His every action and every thought serves only to fulfill the desires of his true master; himself.

If something a bit more feathery and angelic is right up your alley, we've got you covered as well!

  • Seraphim Tyrael - With tired eyes the newly appointed High Seraph Tyrael looked across Sanctuary... after the destruction of the High Heavens, this world was the last bastion against Imperius's wrath.

"Forevermore we shall stand together, angels and men, in the light of this glorious new dawn."

  • The first time Tyrael was mentioned in the Diablo franchise was in the game manual for the original Diablo.
  • When the vote deciding the fate of Sanctuary and humankind was given, Auriel and Itherael voted in favor of Sanctuary, believing in humanity's potential for greatness.
  • Tyrael was the one responsible for establishing the Horadrim in order to protect Sanctuary from the Prime Evils.
  • When forced to choose, Tyrael spared Azmodan to save his comrade Ardleon.
  • After Baal corrupted the Worldstone to his will, it was Tyrael who decided that it had to be destroyed.
  • While he undertook a great sacrifice to fall from the High Heavens to defend Sanctuary, he is a mortal, but not a human.
  • Tyrael eventually gave up being the Archangel of Justice to take his place on the Angiris council as the aspect of Wisdom.

Over the years, many talented artists have taken pen to paper to illustrate Nephalem, Archangels, and demonkind from the Diablo universe. Below are three fantastic pieces of fan art featuring the Archangel of Justice himself, which were submitted by talented artists from around the globe.

Long before the creation of Sanctuary and the rise of mankind, the Eternal Conflict between angels and demons raged on for untold millennia. Even then, Tyrael was there. The Archangel of Justice was renowned for being calm, controlled, and meticulous in his execution of combat technique, but he also remained fair and impartial—as Justice should be.

Tyrael’s impact on the events of the Diablo series are wide-reaching, and while aspects of his past remain shrouded in mystery, there is quite a bit of content available to anyone interested in finding out more about this iconic figure from Diablo’s history:
