The final European WCS Circuit Event of the year is upon us with WCS Valencia bringing elite StarCraft II play to the Iberian Peninsula beginning July 12. With Maru comfortably ruling GSL at the moment and Serral consistently outperforming all competitors at Circuit events, other contenders will see Valencia as a golden opportunity to grab WCS Points while they still can. In fact, Serral’s play in 2018 has been so dominant that he’s qualified for the WCS Global Finals three times over with wins at WCS Austin, WCS Leipzig and his accumulation of three times as many WCS Points as the second-place player in the WCS Circuit Standings.

Nobody will be surprised if Serral takes the lion’s share of the 12600 WCS Points available at WCS Valencia, leaving top players like Neeb and SpeCial fighting off feisty newcomers for any remaining table scraps. Of course, there’s a chance an unheralded player could threaten the order of things like we saw last month in Austin when MaNa took Serral to six games before falling.  A chance to claim the automatic berth at the Global Finals, and the $20,000 top prize that comes with it, can be all the inspiration a player needs at this point in the season.
