Diablo Immortal

Slaughter Beyond the Precipice of Horror

Blizzard Entertainment

The Hells’ legions beckon you forth, adventurer. Welcome to Precipice of Horror, our first major update of 2024. This update introduces the Age of Unmaking, consisting of delightfully dark challenges throughout the year which ultimately mark the return of the Lord of Terror himself, a new elite quest to unravel, new Legendary Gems to bestow, a new chapter in the Hero’s Journey, and a plethora of additional content to elegantly destroy your way through.

The generals of the Burning Hells have unleashed their most clever magic: the ability to alter time itself. Starting on March 27, the server time will be thrust forward by one hour for all European servers during maintenance.

As with previous content updates, there will be server maintenance starting on March 26, from 5 p.m.–7 p.m. PDT for Oceania, China, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe servers, and on March 27, from 1 a.m.–3 a.m. PDT for servers in the Americas. After the maintenance has concluded, all items mentioned below will be live—specific dates for any content going live afterward are provided below.

Don’t allow your home to come under Diablo’s thrall—harness the unrivaled power of new Eternal Equipment to beat back evil. These exquisite demon-vanquishing tools, some of which date back to the Eternal Conflict, can be acquired from various Age of Unmaking activities that release throughout the year. The first of these activities are Terror Rifts, Oblivion Pillars, and Hellslayer Bounties.

A New Tale Unravels with Deckard Cain

The tapestry of Sanctuary’s future unfurls ever so slightly, penning a new chapter in its bloodied annals of history. A new Elite Quest—Tempered Instinct—is now available at the Taite, the Adventure Seeker in Westmarch. Embark on an adventure that spans Deckard Cain’s past, from his time as a young man in Tristram through the events of Diablo II, as he pursues a shadowed menace and struggles under the weight of his own intuition.

Terror Rifts

Terror Rifts—another harbinger for the Age of Unmaking—are spiked gateways through which Diablo’s forces launch their assault, have burst out of Sanctuary’s topsoil. You must bravely venture into these hellish planes of reality to halt incoming invaders.

Terror Rifts will be active every day from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and 6 p.m.–1 a.m. server time. During each block, 3 zones will be invaded at random, with one Terror Rift Portal appearing in a zone at 30-minute intervals. Zones with active Terror Rift Portals are denoted on the World Map. Track down a Portal to enter.

Inside, throngs of brutish monsters will oppose you—cut them down to acquire glowing red orbs known as Stygian Fragments. After gathering 200 Fragments from fallen foes (displayed via progress bar), scout around for a Stygian Spire. Sacrificing the required Fragments in one of these pointed beacons will initiate a one-on-one fight with a beefier opponent. Toppling this enemy grants a reward chest.1

Collect Stygian Fragments, sacrifice them in a Stygian Spire, defeat the boss, and claim a reward chest. Complete this process as many times as you can in 13 minutes to press towards more plentiful rewards, including reward chests. There are a max of 4 Stygian Spires that can appear per Terror Rift, harness all four to receive the maximum amount of reward chests per run.

You can earn rewards up to 10 times a week from Terror Rifts, resetting each Monday at 3 a.m. server time. Once you acquire all weekly rewards, you can continue to run Terror Rifts but will only be able to earn drops from enemies.

A successful run, whether solo or with a group of up to four others, will be met with a chance to earn Eternal Equipment — the rarest and most coveted Items in all of Sanctuary—

Should Hell’s forces overtake you during a run, half of your Fragments will be dropped. After respawning, you can pick up your dropped Fragments.

The Key to Continued Carnage: Terror Essence

Terror Essence is an item that’s essential to partaking in Oblivion Pillars and Hellslayer Bounties. Terror Essence can come from reward chests provided by Stygian Spires. For the best shot at getting your hands on Eternal Equipment. Make sure to always have Terror Essence handy. If you find yourself falling short or having too many, Essence can be bought and sold at Wynton’s Grand Market for Platinum.

Oblivion Pillars

Oblivion Pillars are the Age of Unmaking’s pinnacle challenge and the ultimate test of valor for the most seasoned demon slayers. Both a Terror Essence and playing in Inferno Difficulty I or higher is required to activate an Oblivion Pillar, but experienced adventurers equipped for pulse-pounding combat will fare best in this test of might.

Oblivion Pillars can be found near where Terror Rifts spawn in each zone and are accessible at any time. Use a Terror Essence from your inventory to divine the location of the Pillar. Head there and steel yourself—waves of supercharged monsters or possibly gold-crazed goblins will rush you! You must hold your ground, survive increasingly vigorous attackers, and strike them down before the clock runs out. If you succeed, the chance to earn Eternal Equipment and other rewards shall be your spoils.

Hellslayer Bounties

Diablo’s growing influence has warped sections of Sanctuary into a nightmarish hellscape. Witnessing their home being slowly overtaken by dark forces, the usually warring Immortals and Shadows have put out a contract on their shared enemy. Come one, come all! Fearless fighters are needed to eliminate hearty threats in new Hellslayer Bounties.

Groups or solo slayers on Inferno Difficulty I and above can combine their 4 normal, active Bounties into a Hellslayer Bounty at the Bounty Board for the cost of one Terror Essence. Combining these bounties makes Hellslayer Bounties are 4 times more valuable than a typical bounty. But this does not come without risk-expect increased life drain and other effects to mar your progress. Once done, travel to the zone listed on your Bounty, locate the Hellslayer Bounties Portal, and make your stand against vicious hordes in a more forgiving style of Oblivion Pillars gameplay.

Should you achieve success by thinning out the ranks of the damned, Codex credit for four normal Bounties and a reward chest with the potential to reward Eternal Equipment shall be yours. Hellslayer Bounties are a great way for you to put your Terror Essence to use, while also potentially earning Eternal Equipment.

Legendary Essence Loyalty Bonus Changes

We have updated the loyalty system for Legendary Essence to be more intuitive and rewarding. When you unlock Legendary Essence you can select the next essence that you’d like. We have also removed the restriction of acquiring Essences for different classes through the loyalty system. For instance, a Wizard could collect Essence for a Blood Knight’s items.

Increased Stash Tabs with Boon of Plenty

For Players that seek the rewards from the Boon of Plenty, we have increased the amount of Stash tabs you earn from using it. Basking in the glow of these rewards will now grant three additional Stash tabs. If you stop using the Boon of Plenty after accessing it, your items located within will be available in a separate stash that players can access for 30 days giving them time to retrieve these items.

New Bestiary Entries

We're adding over 11 new entries to the Horadric Bestiary—including the Soulhewn bosses and other shard-warped dangers of the Southern Dreadlands—to make gathering Monstrous Essence more rewarding and depict some of the familiar and new monsters that have emerged in Sanctuary. To see them, just keep conquering your enemies and unlocking pages.

New Season of Prodigy’s Path

This Major update introduces a Seasonal Prodigy’s Path. The Seasonal Prodigy's Path refreshes every season. This Seasonal Prodigy's Path will be available on March 28, 3 a.m. server time— May 23, 2024, 2:59 a.m. server time.

The Seasonal Prodigy's Path unlocks when players reach Paragon Level 140. Players can win rewards by increasing 5 Levels every time until all have been claimed. Unclaimed free rewards will be sent via in-game mail 14 days after season end. Once the Seasonal Prodigy's Path has been purchased, all unclaimed—including locked—rewards will be sent via in-game mail 14 days after the season ends.

Warband Improvements

We have made a few changes to the Warband camp. When contributing to the Warband Stash, the new Item Auto Salvage feature will automatically read the maximum equipment level and updates it in real time. The input method for setting auto-salvage level will be change to keyboard input instead of a list of options, making it easier for players to use.

Additionally, new NPC’s have entered the Warband camp. We are adding the Essence Transfer and Jewelers to access in the camp.

Dungeon Gameplay Changes

We have made a few changes to help optimize Dungeon Gameplay for parties to make it more efficient in a group.

While playing within a Dungeon, if players have to meet at a specific area, if players are falling behind the group they will now be auto-teleported to the meeting point. We have also removed the invulnerability of bosses from as many stages as possible, added the ability to skip custcenes that were once unskippable or required all party members to be present to view.

Battlegrounds Resonance Changes

We found that some players lowered the Resonance levels and used the powers of the Normal Gem to have an unseemly advantage in Battlegrounds. We’re now factoring in Normal Gem power when using the matchmaking algorithm to ensure a more balanced playing field.

We have also optimized the matchmaking algorithm to now consider Amor Penetration, Amor, Potency, and Resistance. Players with high values in each of these categories will be better matched to players of high Resonance levels so the strength of both sides of each battle will be more evenly matched.

Legendary Gem Item Lock

We have extended the Legendary Gem lock in your inventory to all Equipment.

Item Names on PC

For adventurers on PC, we are adding a new setting that allows you to change the color that appears when hovering the cursor over an item. This new setting means the rollover color will match the rarity of the item dropped.

Developer’s Note: Previously, when hovering hover an item, the rollover color was brown. This made it confusing when a Rare item (blue rarity color) would have a brown rollover color which made it appear as though it was of Legendary rarity.

“What’s New” Tab Updates

We have updated the design for this page so you’ll be able to see more game updates.

UI Changes to Grim Rhythm Legendary Gem

The new Legendary Gem “Grim Rhythm,” can now be selected to preview in the Boon of Plenty and Battle Pass.

Added Essence Inheritance NPC to Battleground

Essence Transfer NPCs have now been added to the Battleground starting areas for players to easily swap out preferred builds before the match begins.

Immortal & Shadow Clan Factions Optimization

We have streamlined the process of newer players gaining access to Immortal and Shadow Clans in a couple ways. They no longer have to do tutorials, and the cooldowns for joining and leaving have been adjusted. Ultimately, newer players can send Clan requests more quickly which in turn should help them find a Clan that is looking for a new member to join their ranks.

Improvements to the In-game Achievement System

We are updating the current in-game achievement system to create a more full experience for players. With over 100 achievements currently available, we want players to feel excited when they can mark a new accomplishment by hitting the requirements for one of these achievements.

The ‘Player Achievements’ currently available under the ‘Achievements’ section in the Codex will be removed when this updated feature goes live. Existing players will receive a message that will grant the remaining rewards that would have been available to them if they’d completed the remaining achievements.

Completing an achievement will grant you Achievement Points which will earn you rewards over time. Rewards include Rare Crests, Legendary Crests, Hilts, and other unique cosmetics.

Salvage Adjustments

The next time you open the menu to Salvage, it will remember the rarity of the last item salvaged making it easier to salvage more items of that rarity.

Spectral Allies UI

We have made improvements to Spectral Allies, making them easier to access and summon for returning players. Spectral Allies are NPC’s that can be summoned to help returning players complete certain tasks such as Dungeons. They can be found through the Party Finder system. Expect the Spectral Allies UI to arrive in all regions with a future content update.

Legendary Helm Appearance Updates

We have now included the ability to 'Hide Helm,' for Legendary Helms - which allows you to hide your appearance but still use all the abilities and power of the Helm.

Region-Specific Game Additions

Below you will find region-specific updates coming to the version of Diablo Immortal available in China.

Auto-Battle Feature

A feature has been added that automates gameplay for the player, inputting their character movements and behavior. We have no plans to bring this feature to all regions in a future update.

Relive the Past with The Adventurer’s Chronicle

The Adventurer’s Chronicle can be found in Deckard Cain’s Workshop in Westmarch after you complete the quest “Chronicling the Past.” The Chronicle records the entirety of Immortal’s Main Quest, and it also lists collectible stories, notes, and travelogues. It’s intended to help you get up-to-date if you’re new Sanctuary or returning to the game after an update.

We plan to expand it as new quests and lore books are added with future content releases. Expect the Adventurer’s Chronicle to arrive in all regions with a future content update.

Stories in Sanctuary

New Books, notes and journals have been added in towns, hubs, and throughout the wilderness of Sanctuary. If you’re savvy enough to collect all 21 new entries, head to the Adventurer’s Chronicle menu for a reward. Expect these new stories in Sanctuary to arrive in all regions with a future content update.
